In the blink of an eye, life can take a turn for the worst, leaving us feeling like we’ve been hit from unexpected angles. And that’s exactly what happened to me recently. Back in Portland, calling in sick this week, I realized that nothing is ever truly smooth sailing.
- Food poisoning hit me like a ton of bricks. Trying out exotic foods in Thailand seemed like a good idea at the time, but it caught up with me. A little fever and some unfortunate vomiting on the way to the airport made it clear that maybe grilled jellyfish wasn’t the best choice.
- Missed flight fiasco at the airport with Cathay Pacific refusing to issue our tickets to Hong Kong due to a missed flight segment. I should have purchased new tickets, but the logistics were a nightmare. Trying to secure a last-minute flight is an ordeal I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy.

And just when I thought things couldn’t get worse, a mysterious bug bite on my forehead turned into a full-blown case of shingles. Immune system weakened, stressed out, and facing a health scare on my journey home, I’ve learned that sometimes life throws you curveballs when you least expect it.
The rollercoaster of events – from food poisoning to missed flights to shingles – has been a stark reminder of how fragile and unpredictable life can be. As I sit here recuperating, I can’t help but reflect on the importance of taking care of our physical and mental well-being. Prioritizing health and self-care is crucial, especially in the face of unexpected challenges.
As I navigate through this rough patch, I urge you all to cherish your health, listen to your body, and stay vigilant about self-care practices. Life is full of uncertainties, but by making our well-being a priority, we can better equip ourselves to handle whatever curveballs come our way.
So here’s to health, resilience, and the hope that brighter days lie ahead. Let’s all take a moment to appreciate our bodies, our minds, and the precious gift of good health. Stay healthy, stay safe, and remember to take care of yourselves, because sometimes, life throws us a curveball when we least expect it.
