Let's be honest, every single thing is or can be dangerous to some extent. Damn, even water can be dangerous if you drink it too much. Completely avoiding something just because it's cancerous is kind of ridiculous if we can figure out a way to use it safely. Fossil fuels when burnt are also extremely toxic, yet we use them 24/7.

I've seen a guy drive Asbestos tiles in his trailer without at least having it in a plastic bag. Every time he accelerates or brakes, it probably released fibers into the air

I think Asbestos products are banned in Australia now too. This makes me happy as I believe it's an awful product

Canada used to have a town called Asbestos. They changed the name now.

I assume use of asbestos today is only used under strict rules and regulations industrial applications, when no substitute material exists i ! ?
Then it's the old asbestos, (not always documented where used in the past), that's the real challange to remove and dispose of safely ?
It's no longer 1950's. The danger is well known world wide. And protective gear should protect the few people that are still working around asbestos ? ^^ .. -

Politicians go on about Climate Change, undertake global agreements on restricting fossil fuel use. Yet, there is no worldwide ban on the extraction and use of this hazardous mineral, the dangers of which in contrast to the former, is irrefutable.

For goodness sake. There is so much panic about asbestos. I agree that some asbestos material like blue asbestos is nasty but I have an asbstos/cement garage roof. The cost of replacing it was ludicrous. Hazard suits and signs then special disposal. I could have built a new garage for the cost. I was advised by a builder friend to use use two separate special 'paints' Kingfisher Cumbria. Once the roof was cleaned of moss etc (cleaned wet to stop dust) one coat of encapsulation 'paint' sprayed on inside and out and the roof turned into plastic. Two coats of finishing grey paint inside and out and the roof is sound.

Interesting, but you DW are real cowards in that you didn't mention smoking at all.
Asbestos is for sure dangerous, but the danger of inhaling it is multiplied several times if you also are a smoker.

I have for real witnessed cases where people couldn't afford a concrete ceiling here in India with having at least one of their family member having some form of cancer in their lifetime (mostly lung cancer).90% of the times.

Asbestos is of those odd issues that slips into the crack of a US legal quirk … one US plaintiff's atty managed to convince one sympathetic judge, & a whole grievance industry was born !

In Uganda, I live nearby a school considered to be for the elite kids- it still has asbestos roofing, the last 2months I saw a cleaner cleaning the roof with a blower without putting on any protective gear.

I work as a custodian in an American high school and there's asbestos warning labels on nearly all the pipes, luckily nearly all of the asbestos is contained with some kind of plaster tape
