Law enforcement authorities recently conducted a rigorous drug trafficking operation in the Claxton Bay district, successfully dismantling a sophisticated and highly organized drug network. The operation, initiated based on intelligence that a male suspect had imported narcotics from South America, involved a collaboration between officers of a specialist unit, the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard, and the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force.
The operation yielded significant seizures, including:
- High-grade Colombian marijuana
- An assault rifle, four magazines, a pistol loaded with a magazine and fitted with a selector
- 404 rounds of 5.56 ammunition
- $60,000 in cash hidden in the suspect’s residence
The suspect’s involvement in drug trafficking was further evidenced by the discovery of a man-made inlet connecting his property to the Gulf of Paria, along with several vessels and engines in the vicinity. Five vessels allegedly belonging to the suspect were impounded pending investigations.
Despite the challenging environment of the mangrove forest, law enforcement units navigated through the inlets and conducted thorough searches. The operation is ongoing, with efforts focused on locating and seizing all narcotics believed to be hidden in the area.
Acting Commissioner of Police, Junior Benjamin, emphasized the determination of the law enforcement agencies to dismantle the sophisticated drug network, apprehend all involved parties, and bring them to justice.
In the face of such organized crime, the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies continue to combat drug trafficking and ensure the safety and security of communities. The commitment to upholding the law and preserving peace remains unwavering in the pursuit of justice.
