As the year comes to a close, it’s time to take a quick look at how our portfolios have been performing. With less than a month left, signs point to a positive end to the year in the market. But what about our investments? How are they holding up?

- My portfolio has seen losses in Reits, but the gains in the US market have managed to cover them well. Surprisingly, despite having a significantly smaller allocation, the US market has had a greater impact than the SG Reits, which make up about 40% of my portfolio.
- On another note, the SG Market Non-Reits have been lackluster compared to the US market performance. The real standout, however, has been the SG Banks, whose gains have largely driven the overall year-to-date performance of my portfolio. Many experts and influencers missed the mark on this one.
For me, a retail investor, the logic is straightforward. The banking sector is thriving, and with interest rates on the decline, it’s a good sign for the economy. This, in turn, helps to offset any losses in net interest income.
