Founding Fathers of America had imposed tariffs in order to help Local Manufacturing industry.
the fact is President throughout 19th century imposed tariffs to safeguard local manufacturing, that is how America became a Manufacturing Powerhouse in the 19th century and remained a Manufacturing superpower until the 1960s.
Its only in the post world war 2 era that America started playing this FREE TRADE game that America lost its Manufacturing edge because cheaper foreign goods shattered local manufacturing industry, this led to many manufacturing companies closing factories in America and moving to foreign countries.
that is why we have Big Rust Belt in America, Free Trade did more harm than Good, Millions lost jobs because Manufacturing moved Abroad, that led to economy of many cities and regions getting completely shattered. -
