In essence, Qi2 aimed to bring the convenience of MagSafe products enjoyed by iPhone users to the Android ecosystem. Despite the potential benefits, none of the major Android manufacturers in the US, including Samsung, Google, and Motorola, integrated Qi2 support into their devices in 2024.
Apple, known for its closed ecosystem, surprisingly shared elements of the MagSafe standard with members of the Wireless Power Consortium, the organization overseeing the Qi and Qi2 standards. This move, intended to promote development and interoperability, highlights the collaborative nature of the industry. Given the success and popularity of MagSafe accessories among iPhone users, one would expect Android manufacturers to follow suit. Yet, nearly two years after the Qi2 standard was finalized, only one Android handset, the HMD Skyline, supports Qi2.
