Shocking New Bill Bans DeepSeek on Government Devices – Find Out Why!

Shocking New Bill Bans DeepSeek on Government Devices – Find Out Why!

In recent weeks, a new generative AI chatbot has risen in popularity at an unprecedented rate – DeepSeek. Hailing from China, this chatbot boasts high performance comparable to Opic’s AAIP at a fraction of the cost. However, concerns quickly emerged regarding DeepSeek’s data collection policies, with user data being transmitted to a Chinese company linked to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

In a similar fashion to the trajectory of TikTok, two bipartisan US lawmakers, Darin LaHood and Josh Gottheimer, are introducing a bill to prohibit DeepSeek’s use on government devices. Several government programs such as NASA and the US Navy have already banned the app independently, and the state of Texas has imposed its own ban. The proposed bill intends to extend this ban to all federal government devices.

The swift action being taken with DeepSeek echoes the trajectory of TikTok’s journey in the United States. While TikTok faced concerns about its ties to the Chinese government for years before any action was taken, the situation with DeepSeek is moving rapidly due to solid evidence linking it to data collection practices by a Chinese government-affiliated company. This distinction makes the case against DeepSeek much more straightforward compared to the case against TikTok.

Unlike ByteDance, the company behind TikTok, which used non-Chinese servers to host data for US users and had no definitive proof of data sharing with the CCP, DeepSeek’s data transmission to China is clear cut. The bill targeting DeepSeek is set to be introduced formally on Thursday, sparking anticipation for its progression through the legislative process.

As US officials expedite measures against DeepSeek, the similarities to the TikTok saga highlight the increasing scrutiny of Chinese tech companies. It remains to be seen how swiftly this bill will advance, but the outcome may well mirror the fate of its predecessor.
