Revolutionize Youth Justice in 2024: Join the Movement Now!

The youth of America represents a generation teeming with potential and talent, deserving of second chances just like anyone else. National Youth Justice Action Month serves as a reminder to cultivate safe, supportive communities where young people can thrive. It is imperative to shape a juvenile justice system that embodies the core values of equality, fairness, and opportunity for all.

  1. Despite a significant decline in the number of young individuals within the juvenile justice system between 2000 and 2022, disparities persist.
  2. Young people of color and those with disabilities continue to be overrepresented in the system.
  3. Youth within juvenile justice facilities often lack the necessary support, resources, and guidance for rehabilitation, leaving them ill-equipped for success upon reentry.

Efforts are underway to enhance the youth justice system for successful outcomes post-release. With substantial investments being made, evidence-based diversion programs are being prioritized for youths entangled within the criminal justice system. Access to legal counsel and critical support services post-exit are also at the forefront of these endeavours.

  1. National Partnership for Student Success aims to mobilize 250,000 mentors and tutors for students.
  2. Funding for afterschool and summer learning programs totaling $1.3 billion has been secured.
  3. Investments in Full-Service Community Schools have increased fivefold, establishing over 2,000 new schools to cater to the holistic needs of more than one million students.

Moreover, efforts have been made to improve access to mental health care for youth, including the establishment of the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline (988) for immediate assistance. In alignment with promoting well-being, Mobile Crisis Response Teams have been deployed to swiftly connect individuals in crisis with mental health professionals.

During National Youth Justice Action Month, let us recommit to supporting young people on their journey towards fulfilling lives. Acknowledging and appreciating those who champion youth causes is paramount. Together, let’s fortify our dedication to upholding the promise of liberty and justice for all within our juvenile justice system.

Therefore, in recognition of the importance of youth justice advocacy, I, JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR., President of the United States, hereby proclaim October 2024 as National Youth Justice Action Month. Let us unite in action to uplift and empower the youth of our nation through meaningful community engagement.

JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR.
