‘Ladies, DONT JUDGE ME, but I’ve never seen a gynecologist’: I have met my deductible. What appointments should I make to maximize my insurance benefits?

Hi Money Minder,

So, I’m 22 and still figuring out this whole adulting thing. Our insurance has covered our deductible this year already thanks to a family member needing surgery in August.

Now that I have some breathing room, I want to take advantage of our insurance benefits before the year ends. I usually see a psychiatrist for my ADHD meds, and it’s been nice seeing those costs go down.

Okay, here comes the real talk – I’ve never been to a gynecologist. I know, I know, I need to change that ASAP.

I’ve been thinking about getting my hormones checked too, but I’m not sure if that’s covered under our plan unless a doctor says it’s necessary.

Any other doctor’s appointments or check-ups I should squeeze in before the year ends? My family isn’t big on regular doctor visits, so hitting that deductible next year might be a challenge.

Any advice or tips would be awesome! Thanks a bunch! 🙂

Response from THE MONEY MINDER:

"Hello There,"

Hello there,

It’s great to hear that you are being proactive with your health and taking advantage of your insurance benefits. It’s important to make the most out of what you have available, especially since you’ve already met your deductible for this year.

Seeing a gynecologist for the first time is a great step towards taking care of your overall health. It’s a common and necessary aspect of women’s healthcare, so don’t worry about judgment – we all have to start somewhere. Getting your hormones checked is also a good idea, but you are correct that insurance may not cover it without a doctor’s recommendation. You can discuss this with your physician during your appointments to see if it’s something that could be beneficial for you.

In addition to these appointments, consider scheduling a general check-up to make sure everything is in order. This can help catch any potential issues early on and allow for preventive care. You may also want to discuss with your psychiatrist if there are any other assessments or screenings that could be beneficial based on your medical history and current treatment.

Since your family doesn’t visit doctors regularly, it’s a smart move to make the most out of the current insurance benefits before the year ends. Take this opportunity to address any health concerns and establish a good routine for staying on top of your wellness.

Remember, taking care of your health is an investment in yourself and your future well-being. Keep up the good work, and feel free to reach out if you have any more questions.

Take care,

THE MONEY MINDER
