Reinvested my dividends for 30 years. Now at a point where I take them for income in my 60s.

Please what do you think of Exxon mobile as a dividend stock? because I want to invest around 140K of my cash savings and was wondering the best strategies during volatile times like this?

been primarily a value/dividend/dividend growth investor for ~ 20 years now. Currently have ~ 80k of annual dividend income coming in. Still buy growth from time to time but The value of the portfolio is secondary to the income it produces. I will retire in 10 years with 100k of dividend income hopefully along with my rental property income.

This will be forever debated until the end of time for people who don't want to realize taxes when dividends are paid, but having passive income without having to sell shares of a quality company can be a lifeline in between a job loss or other financial crisis. For some, cash flow right now is more critical than a peak total return when you're 80. I know too many people that didn't even make it to be that old.

Dividend investing is my thing! I'm building wealth with a buy-and-hold strategy in my Roth account, featuring rockstars like Berkshire B stock, SCHD, and S&P 500 and total market ETFs. My taxable account is also getting in on the action, generating regular income through dividend-paying stocks. It's a winning combo that's helping me achieve my financial dreams!

To me, the crucial aspect is that if you invest and have additional income apart from dividends, you can sustain your lifestyle solely through dividends without the need to sell investments. This enables you to pass on those dividends to your children, granting them a significant advantage in life. In 2023, I received dividends amounting to $52,000..

A 5% dividend or less is a terrible investment when you can get 5% in an FDIC insured savings account or T-bills.
If you buy or hold a stock for the dividend then you are at the mercy (ha!) of the company. The minute they cut dividends, even by a small amount, the stock will fall out. On the other side, when bond and treasury yields increase all the Boomer dividend stocks tank.
Take a look at how KO has performed over the last 30 years vs QQQ or SPY and you won't want to own that dead junk. -

Nobody ever talks about how dividends are automatically taxed as short term gains at your tax bracket rather than long term at 15%. The more wealth you have, the worse an idea it is.

ARCC is solid. Need ACRE to come back to life. The interest rates and occupancy rates are severely hurting that stock performance

So I’ve saved up $199K in an emergency fund, and now I’m looking to dip my toes into investing. Watching this video and thinking, “This dividend investing strategy sounds like the perfect way to make that money work for me.” Need a solid head start, but hey, a little guidance couldn’t hurt, right?

I used to think it was just about buying stocks, but I didn’t realize there are strategies for managing risk and actually making a profit. Now I feel kinda stuck since I’m not seeing any gains in my portfolio. Do you have any recommendations on what I should consider? I’d really appreciate it!

My portfolio doesn’t just cater to dividend stocks. I hold $VFIAX (S&P 500 index fund) in my Roth IRA and $VTI (Total Stock Market ETF) in my taxable brokerage account. Two of my largest holdings. The individual dividend stock positions all complement the index holdings.

My $185k portfolio includes covered call ETFs and growth ETFs like SCHD, DVY, SVOL, FE, and JEQ. I would like to clean up my portfolio a bit, and change my investment strategy by placing a heavier emphasis on dividends. Am I on the right track?

I believe investors should always put their cash to work, especially now that we're in 2025, as we'll start to see more market diversification. Given the recent performance of stocks, it's safe to say that the stock market is the smartest investment option available. I hope others agree.

Tesla “TSLA” shares surge with CEO Elon Musk's involvement in the US election seemingly pays off after President-elect Donald Trump's win. which stocks could potentially become the next in terms of growth over the next few months?. I've allocated $220k for lnvestments, looking for companies to make additions to boost performance.

However, for the people who have a pension with early withdrawal privileges the stagnant, low total returns of most dividend stocks are not a good play. Better idea for them is to chase big tech growth. For example, over the last three years alone, Amazon, which is not a risky volatile stock, returned almost 39%. Same for Microsoft at almost 44%. Google at 43%. Branch out five years and those returns average out close to 160%.

I don’t think the distinguishmdnf matters so much as long as you buy good quality companies, at a fair price (thst could be a full growth company or a passive dicidend company)

Her points are really good and I never thought about the argument that it teaches good investment behaviour. It really does, at least now that I reflect about myself… I really get a little bit nervous if a conventional non dividend stock is performing well and I often ask myself when to get out.

I feel investors should focus on under-the-radar stocks, considering the current rollercoaster nature of the stock market, Because 35% of my $270k portfolio comprises plummeting stocks that were once revered. I don't know where to go here out of devastation.

SCHD is a solid choice for dividend investors, especially in uncertain markets. With its consistent dividend growth and solid track record, it feels like a reliable long-term hold. I’m focusing on ETFs like SCHD to balance growth with stability, especially as we navigate the impacts of rising interest rates.
