‘I feel like I’m wasting critical time just overthinking’: I want a good paying job, but I’m stuck in community college. How can I break this cycle and find my path to financial security?

Hey Money Minder,

I’m 27 and currently in community college. I’m trying to get an education so I can land a well-paying job. I know some people who didn’t go to school and still managed to find success in life. They have multiple businesses or worked their way up from the bottom. I feel like I still have some time left to finish college and secure a good job, rather than working at basic fast food or retail store jobs forever. I’m trying to find my path and purpose, but I’m struggling to figure it out right now. It feels like I’m wasting precious time by overthinking everything. I haven’t made any significant income as an adult in my late 20s.

I’m starting to realize the importance of starting early in life – saving money, contributing to retirement, having a side hustle, making investments, and so on. Unfortunately, I’m mostly learning from YouTube and Google, but all I’m getting at the moment is that I need to start somewhere and stop overthinking.

Best,

Lost and Confused

Response from THE MONEY MINDER:

Hello There,

I understand the frustration and pressure you’re feeling as you navigate through community college and strive to secure a good paying job. It’s commendable that you’re recognizing the importance of financial stability and taking steps to educate yourself on financial literacy through platforms like YouTube and Google. While it may seem daunting to see others succeed without traditional education, it’s important to remember that everyone’s journey is unique and success can be achieved through various paths.

Given your concerns about time and the need to start building a secure financial foundation, I recommend focusing on practical steps that align with your current situation. Begin by setting specific financial goals, such as creating a budget, saving a portion of your income, and exploring potential side hustles or part-time jobs to increase your earnings. Additionally, consider seeking out resources or workshops at your community college that can provide guidance on financial planning and investments.

While it’s natural to feel overwhelmed and uncertain about the future, it’s crucial to take action and avoid getting caught up in overthinking. By starting small and gradually building your financial knowledge and habits, you can work towards achieving financial security and setting yourself on a path towards long-term success. Remember, it’s never too late to make positive changes and prioritize your financial well-being.

Best of luck on your journey, and remember that every step you take towards financial stability is a step in the right direction.

Farewell from THE MONEY MINDER.
