What was eye opening for me when I found a youtube video on most common manipulation techniques of sociopaths and the top comment was duolingo uses like half of this. Basically it is guilt tripping you into opening the app every time but then hardly anything happens. Your language skills dont improve that much as they could. I stopped opening it and I feel better just because I'm not chased by an annoying owl and his friends. They should focus on the learning methods. If they have to nag people each time to come back maybe it is not the best. My intrinsic motivation dropped quite fast.

Duolingo got my Dutch exam passed, if you want to improve your language skills, you gotta learn everyday for hours, not just 1 lesson

Did y’all forget all the memes about Duolingo ultra cringe and bad notifications? Because they use ai…. No wonder. I don’t think that’s a good move to paint the picture that the memes and bad reviews are by design?! This is so bad.

I absolutely love Duolingo and have used it for years. Several friends of mine also use it. It pops up in discussion on occasion.

I really hate the image with the eyes stretching open like the radiator lady in Eraser Head!! There are a few others which also repulse me from using the app when they come up, but that one is the worst.

The term AI is abused. A simple algorithm now is being labeled AI.

Duolingo kept invalidating the test I took. For example, during one of my tests, there was a framed picture with English text on the wall behind me. Another time, someone accidentally entered the room and then left. They also said my camera was too blurry. As a result, I spent a lot of money on the test, but the score wasn’t accepted by the school I wanted to apply to.I tried learning Spanish using Duolingo, but the program was too slow and it felt boring for an adult like me.
