"Embarking on a Dream: The RB40 Beach Shack Journey"

Greetings from Thailand! I find myself on a three-week journey to visit my dad and oversee the progress of what is now known as the RB40 Beach Shack. A project that started as the RB40 Villa, a long-term dream that has finally come to light after years of pause. Let me take you through the fascinating evolution of this rustic family compound that I am developing on the shores of Bang Saen Beach in Thailand.

1. The Vision:
   • Initially, the vision was grandiose – a sprawling family compound with 10 little huts, a lush garden, a communal dining area, a BBQ spot, a pizza oven, a yoga sanctuary, a pool, and various spaces for guests to unwind and recharge. A dream that seemed too vast to achieve.
   • However, practicality set in, and I had to downscale my dreams to fit the reality of what was available.
2. The Location:
   • Bang Saen Beach, nestled in Thailand, became the unlikely canvas for my dream project. While not the picture-perfect beach destination that social media gloats about, it has a unique charm being the closest beach getaway from Bangkok.
   • The coastline might not boast crystal-clear waters, but over the years, efforts have gone into cleaning up the area. Restrictions are now in place, such as no smoking or drinking on the beach, making it a more pleasant environment.
3. The Allure of Bang Saen:
   • The town exudes a local tourist vibe, wrapped in a blanket of affordability. Cost-effective seafood, bustling street food stalls, and a community vibe make it an interesting place to work on the RB40 Beach Shack.
   • The beachfront is adorned with food stalls, providing an array of local delicacies and an opportunity to indulge in the freshest seafood offerings.
4. Renovation and Transformation:
   • Stepping foot on the RB40 Beach Shack site, one is greeted with tales of neglect and abandonment from forty years past. Reclaiming the land from overgrown foliage and litter, my dad embarked on a mission to resurrect the property.
   • Clearing the land and securing the necessary permits was the first step. As a traditional Thai wooden house began to take shape, additional modifications are being made to ensure longevity and functionality.

As the RB40 Beach Shack project continues to unfold, I can’t help but marvel at the journey and the transformations taking place. From grand visions to pragmatic endeavors, the evolution of this venture embodies the essence of long-term dedication and perseverance.
