Celebrate Grand Diwali with Government-backed Motorcade – Join the Festivities!

Guyana’s vibrant Diwali celebrations are just around the corner, and the Government of Guyana is lending a helping hand to over 35 Mandirs and youth groups across the country to ensure their active participation in the Diwali Motorcade organized by the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha on October 30. This annual event is not just a celebration of Diwali, but a significant cultural and tourism spectacle that is deeply ingrained in the fabric of Guyana.

As the Dharmic Sabha commemorates its 50th anniversary, the 2024 Diwali motorcades are set to take place countrywide, culminating in a grand finale on October 30. Here’s a breakdown of the festivities:

  • Essequibo on October 25 at the Anna Regina Car Park
  • East Bank Demerara and West Coast Demerara on October 26 at the Diamond Market Tarmac and Oceanview Mandir Compound
  • Berbice on October 27 at the Bath Community Centre Ground, Rosehall Ground, Port Mourant Community Centre Ground, and Tagore Ground

The grand motorcade on October 30 promises to be a spectacle like no other, with a record number of floats parading through Demerara, Essequibo, and Berbice. The procession will kick off at the Shri Krishna Mandir in Campbelville, traversing its traditional route along Sandy Babb Street, Vlissengen Road, and the Seawall, before culminating at the LBI Community Centre Ground, East Coast Demerara.

The cultural extravaganza at the LBI Community Centre Ground will kick off at 7 pm and will feature a dazzling display of performances and the presentation of prizes. Additionally, the Ministry of Home Affairs has declared Deepavali, the day after the motorcade on October 31, as a public holiday, allowing Guyanese to continue reveling in the festivities.

As the countdown to Diwali begins, Guyana is gearing up for a vibrant celebration that not only honors its rich cultural heritage but also showcases its spirit of unity and diversity. Join in the festivities and immerse yourself in the magic of Diwali this year!
