A Vision for Paraguay’s Industrial Future
In a strategic move to propel Paraguay towards becoming a more industrialized nation, President Santiago Peña has restructured the Industry and Commerce Ministry (MIC) by appointing entrepreneur Marco Riquelme as the new Deputy Minister of Industry. Riquelme, coming from an industrial background, shares the President’s vision of enhancing the country’s industrial sector. Expressing his commitment, Riquelme stated, “It is a dream that we have been sharing from an industrial family and as part of the guild. The idea is to join my efforts to make this dream come true in the shortest possible time.”
The reshuffle also saw Gustavo Giménez retaining his position as Deputy Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). He emphasized the government’s focus on bolstering the sector by facilitating access to funding and exploring new markets. Rodrigo Maluff, the former Deputy Minister of the Imports and Exports Network (Rediex), has now been tasked with overseeing trade operations to enhance transparency in the Paraguayan market and reduce logistics costs for private sector engagement on a global scale. Javier Viveros will take over the Rediex portfolio with the aim of energizing the country’s economic growth.
These appointments were confirmed by Minister Javier Giménez following a meeting with President Peña. Additionally, the President signed a bill into law that specifically addresses the needs of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Paraguay. The MIC’s initiative aims to equip the sector with essential resources to thrive at a national level. This legislation includes provisions for the establishment of a unified database for formalized micro-enterprises, streamlining administrative processes, and reducing operational costs, among other benefits.
This strategic realignment within the Industry and Commerce Ministry underscores the government’s commitment to fostering a thriving industrial sector in Paraguay and supporting the growth of MSMEs. By tapping into the expertise and dedication of key personnel, the country is poised for economic advancement and increased competitiveness on the global stage. The vision for a more dynamic and prosperous Paraguay is steadily shaping under the leadership of President Santiago Peña and his team.
