Xiaomi’s Latest Google TV Box Fails to Wow Reddit Users
Xiaomi has recently unveiled its latest offering in the Google TV box market, the 3rd Gen TV Box, but the response from Reddit users has been less than enthusiastic. Despite promising 4K visuals, Dolby Vision, Atmos, Wi-Fi 6, and a faster processor, Android TV fans are feeling let down by the lack of significant upgrades and missing features.
Here’s why the new Xiaomi TV Box has left the Android TV community disappointed:
- The box comes equipped with the Amlogic S905X5M chip, hinting at improved CPU performance and GPU output. However, the inclusion of only 2GB of RAM has sparked criticism, with users deeming it outdated for a 2025 release.
- Reddit users have expressed frustration over the absence of an Ethernet port for wired connectivity and the reliance on USB 2.0, as the S905X5M chip does not support USB 3.0. Xiaomi’s track record with software updates has also been a point of contention.
Despite some users appreciating the updated chip and other enhancements, the consensus within the Android TV community is that Xiaomi has played it too safe or cut corners to save costs. As Google TV gains popularity on various streaming boxes, Xiaomi’s cautious approach seems to have missed the mark.
