You won’t believe how many Canadians are in favor of hitting back at the US with tariffs – shocking poll results!

Amidst rising tensions between Canada and the United States over tariffs, a recent poll conducted by Leger suggests that a significant majority of Canadians are in favor of retaliatory measures. The poll, which surveyed 1,500 Canadians between February 14 and February 17, revealed some compelling insights into how Canadians are responding to the escalating trade dispute.

Key findings from the poll include:

  • Seventy per cent of Canadians support dollar-for-dollar retaliatory tariffs on the United States.
    • 45 per cent strongly support such tariffs, while 25 per cent are somewhat in favor.
  • 81 per cent of respondents expressed concerns about U.S. President Donald Trump using economic means to push Canada into a closer union with the United States.
  • 68 per cent of respondents reported an increase in their purchases of Canadian products as a result of the trade dispute.

The strong support for retaliatory tariffs and the increase in purchases of Canadian products demonstrate the level of anger and frustration that Canadians are feeling towards the United States’ trade policies. Sébastien Dallaire, Leger’s executive vice-president for Eastern Canada, noted that Canadians are willing to take actions that may ultimately impact their wallets in order to show their displeasure with the trade situation.

Furthermore, the poll revealed that a significant number of Canadians are adjusting their buying habits in response to the trade tensions:
– 63 per cent are purchasing less American products in stores.
– 62 per cent are buying less American products online.
– 52 per cent have reduced their purchases on Amazon.
– 50 per cent are cutting down on fast food purchases from American chains.
– 43 per cent are buying less from U.S.-based retail chain stores.

Interestingly, while 30 per cent of respondents who had planned trips to the United States have canceled them, only 19 per cent of those who subscribe to U.S. streaming services reported canceling their subscriptions.

In conclusion, the poll results reflect a significant shift in consumer behavior and sentiment in response to the trade tensions between Canada and the United States. Canadians are expressing their displeasure with U.S. trade policies by supporting retaliatory measures and increasing their purchases of Canadian products. As the trade dispute continues to unfold, it is evident that Canadians are willing to take action to show their support for local products and businesses.
