Its really stupid, American economy DEPEND GREATLY on consumer buying power. The more Americans spend recklessly the better the economy. BUT when cheap chinese goods stop coming because of tarriffs , Americans CANNOT spend or have a reckless LIFESTYLE. Overpriced cars, trucks, high rents all eating up low wages very quickly. Those who say bring back American manufacturing don’t realize that Americans love a deal. They will not pay 2000 dollars for an iPhone, nor 5000 for a computer. This is why Walmart makes so much money, because we love cheap stuff. You can be cavalier and say, “I’m willing to pay whatever price to bring back jobs…”, but much of America is in love with saving money and they will not pay that price. BTW, we get a lot of oil from Canada and Mexico, and we already pay one of the lowest gas prices in the world. Don’t believe me? Go to europe or Asia.

The Chinese , Mexican or Canadian imports to US are not theirs local native brands, all these imports are American Manufactures/brands for US market and many of them in collaboration between US & foreign companies.
As Canada main export to US is Crude Oil related products and 2nd are cars, US brand cars, Same goes for Mexico & China.
So imposing higher tariffs on US brands will be paid by US consumers.
And If 47th is planing to force US Manufactures back to US he might already had the idea how to counteract Chinese $2.06 – $3.30 with US $7.25 per hour minimum wages, deregulation's might reduce it to something but not to $2.06 per hour for US labors as difference in cost of living in both countries is too much.
Now its all depends on American Manufactures that how much they willing to sacrifice (cuts in their insane profits) for their country. but yes Chinese exports to US surpass half trillion $ a year which is almost 15% of total Chinese exports. -
