Have you ever found yourself lost on a biking adventure, struggling to read a map while balancing on your handlebars? I have a solution for you! Let me share with you my DIY handlebar map holder that will make navigation on your touring bicycle a breeze.
Here’s how I created this handy accessory:
- Start with a thin piece of plywood (or any other material you have on hand like wood, plastic, or metal) cut out to fit standard AAA road maps.
- Attach the map holder to your mountain bike handlebar with a quill stem. I drilled holes and secured it with two zip ties, ensuring it rests flat against the handlebar with minimal movement.
- To keep the map in place, use four rubber bands. While this setup may not be waterproof, you can easily improvise by placing the map in a ziplock bag when it rains.
If making your own map holder seems daunting, fear not! You can purchase a similar one at REI for $20, but why spend that much when you can create your own for just a few cents?
