Shocking Upset! AC Snatches Victorious Crown from Pic-O-De-Crop King!

Adrian AC Clarke emerges as the triumphant Calypso Monarch of 2024! Defeating a field of 17 talented competitors in a heated Courtesy Garage Pic O De Crop Finals held at the National Botanical Gardens, AC, a former king of calypso from 2001 and 2008, reclaimed his throne for the third time. The crowning moment occurred in the early hours of Saturday, August 3, 2024. With an impressive total score of 133 points, AC outshone his closest rival by a remarkable 28 points.

  1. The Diverse Line-Up: The stage at Waterford, St Michael, was graced by a diverse array of contestants – two former monarchs, seasoned veterans, three former junior monarchs, debutants, two teenagers, and a differently-abled artist.
  2. Record Attendance: The event witnessed a massive turnout of over 6,000 enthusiastic patrons, filling the venue with an electrifying atmosphere of music and competition.
  3. AC’s Winning Performance: Representing De Big Show, AC delivered a powerful, self-penned tune titled ‘Going Fuh Crown’, skillfully arranged by Roger Gittens.
  4. Victory Speech: Reflecting on his triumph, AC shared his sentiments with the National Cultural Foundation (NCF), expressing his joy and satisfaction. "This win is truly special. It feels amazing to break the streak of second place finishes and secure my third title. Congratulations to all the competitors who brought their A-game. This victory is incredibly gratifying."

In light of his victory, AC now faces the decision of choosing between a brand-new Nissan E Power X-Trail valued at $136,000, courtesy of title sponsor Courtesy Garage, or a cash prize of $100,000. Additionally, his winnings include $5,000 in insurance coverage, courtesy of Cooperators General Insurance, and $1,000 worth of fuel vouchers from SOL Barbados. The deadline for his decision is set for Wednesday, August 7.

Ultimately, the top contenders of the 2024 Calypso Finals were duly rewarded – with Sir Ruel clinching the second spot with 105 points and earning $40,000, followed by Chrystal at third place with 97 points, securing $20,000. Billboard claimed the fourth position with 91 points, walking away with $15,000. Contestants ranking from fifth to tenth received $8,000 each, while those in eleventh to nineteenth place received $6,000 each. Additionally, all finalists were rewarded with an appearance fee of $1,500.

In recognition of outstanding talent and contributions to the festival, the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) will present special awards, including the Best Nation-Building Song award, with a total reward of $1,000 for both the composer and contestant. Furthermore, the Crop Over 50th incentive awards will be presented to honor the Best Song Writer of the Festival, with prizes ranging from $300 to $1,000, along with additional incentives for the 50th Anniversary of Crop Over celebrations.

As the curtains close on the 2024 Calypso Monarch competition, the echoes of musical triumph and artistic excellence reverberate, setting the stage for a future filled with creativity and cultural vibrancy.
