If the Fed maintains its recent hawkish shift, lowering rate cut expectations, then it's hard to see multiple expansion for U.S. small cap stocks. Earnings growth should be strong for smaller companies as deregulation provides a tailwind for M&A and lower corporate taxes provide some relief. I would be neutral to moderately overweight small caps. But not more than 10-15% of your portfolio.

One of three things will happen:
1) bull market continues, S&P reaches new highs of 6,600-7,100+ consistent with highest predictions, and we get several months of inflation data indicating the FEDтАЩs 2% has been reached such that they revert back to 4 cuts in 2025 – finally, small caps rally
2) bull market continues, S&P reaches new highs of 6,600-7,100+ consistent with highest predictions, and we get the same choppy inflation data all year – result is small caps move sideways while breadth gets worse
3) bull market fades, S&P bearish predictions take hold at 4,800 or lower – result small caps eat poop from hereTom is working from historical statistics, which work until they donтАЩt, and the variables today are much different. WeтАЩve had a 2024 where pretty much all stars have aligned for smalls to rally (inflation dropped like a rock, interest rates dropped 1%, and the economy is on fire), yet investors remain cautious.
ItтАЩs even worse than that. The CALF scv ETF is down 7% this year while the S&P is up 27%! Betting on the very low likelihood of my number 1 this far into the cycle is riskier than throwing down 100% on NVDA at this point.
Stick with the market momentum, which is our overvalued Mag-7 meme tech stocks.
